For week 5 we had to explore the concept of sound, and what it might mean to me personally. For the first two entries I decided to draw the things around me I could hear, such as my housemates talking, the sound of my keyboard etc. But I personally wasn't very statisfied with these results until entry 3.
I was stuck on inspiration, so I decided to for a late-night walk with my housemates to a local wooded area. From there I decided to draw how the sound felt via patterns and shapes. I tried to focus on minimal colours to really portray the sounds I was hearing.
Another important aspect again was the background- when I think of silence I think of nothingness- which to me links in with the colour black, so I again wanted it to feel and appear as if that "nothingness" was being disturbed by the patterns portraying sound.
For the first two entries, I decided to draw things once again, quite literally, focusing on the idea of contrast once again etc. I.e the first one was based on the sound of my keyboard and the other my housemates' talking downstairs.
Entry 3 and 4 were the turning points; once I had finished up my walk in the woods I decided to draw the abstraction of sound, and how It feels.
Entry 3 signifies the sounds of the woods, and how muffled they sounded. Entry 4 showcases the idea of contrast through daily sounds I can hear from my bedroom; how noisy it can be outside even though the main road is a 10 minute walk from my house.
Entry 5 and 6 once again focused on the idea of abstraction. Entry five was the isolated sounds of cars at night; entry 6 was about the rain hitting my bedroom at night.
